Roots, not symptoms.
Doctors are taught to find the cause before treating the symptom. We try to give the same way. Much of what fails in Indian education and healthcare comes down to a few things: talent that is never found, incentives that reward the wrong behavior, and care that breaks down somewhere between the plan and the patient. We put our support there, and we stay.
We are donors. We give money, time, and whatever judgment three decades in medicine have left us, and we expect nothing back except that it is used well.

How We Work
Before we commit, we spend time with an institution. We ask what is missing; and often it is not money. When we do commit, we commit for years, and we agree a few measures that matter and that we track together.
Once a year, we sit down with each institution and ask what changed, what did not, and what we should do differently.

What We Hold To
We give for the long term, and judge ourselves on the same clock. Institutions take decades.
We help people lead, not depend on us.
We are one contributor among many, and we say so. The results belong to the people who do the work.

What We Do Not Do
We do not run programs ourselves. We work through institutions that do. We do not add to anyone's reporting burden to ease our own.
